El festival se llevará a cabo entre el 7 y el 17 de septiembre e incluye un estreno de más de 60 películas.
Pese a las huelgas que sacuden a Hollywood y que pone en peligro la temporada de premios de Hollywood y a los festivales de cine que sirven como plataformas de lanzamiento para muchos contendientes al Oscar, el Festival Internacional de Cine de Toronto señaló este lunes que todavía sigue en pie y que planean exhibir sus películas, por lo que este 24 de julio han presentando su primera lista de películas para el festival del 2023.
Alexander Payne , Richard Linklater , Kore-eda Hirokazu y Justine Triet son algunos de los autores que proyectarán sus últimos trabajos en el festival. Payne estará presente con “The Holdovers”, una comedia ambientada en un internado que lo reúne con la estrella de Sideways Paul Giamatti, mientras que Linklater presentará Hitman, una comedia de acción con Glen Powell y Adria Arjona. Kore-eda y Triet proyectarán Monster y Anatomy of a Fall, ambas estrenadas en Cannes, donde la última ganó la Palma de Oro.
En total, la primeras noticias de cintas seleccionas del festival incluye 60 películas, que representan a 70 países de todo el mundo. En el festival se podrá ver Dumb Money de Craig Gillespie, una comedia dramática sobre el juego de GameStop de Sony protagonizada por Seth Rogen y Paul Dano, así como varias películas de Netflix como Rustin de George C. Wolfe, Pain Hustlers de David Yates y Nyad de Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi y Jimmy Chin, se proyectarán en el festival.
Apple mostrará Flora and Son, un conmovedor drama musical del cineasta de “Sing Street” John Carney, “después de comprarlo de Sundance por $ 20 millones. Las películas, Lee con Kate Winslet como la fotógrafa Elizabeth “Lee” Miller y el drama de supervivencia de Jodie Comer The End We Start From, tendrán su estreno mundial, además de buscar una distribució, esperando obtener críticas sólidas para una venta.
La programación también cuenta con varias películas varios actores que se han pasado a la silla de dirección como la de Michael Keaton (“Knox Goes Away”), Chris Pine (“Poolman”), Anna Kendrick (“Woman of the Hour”) y Viggo Mortensen (“The Dead Don’t Hurt” ) . Ethan Hawke traerá su último esfuerzo como director, Wildcat protagonizada por su hija Maya Hawke, como la novelista Flannery O’Connor.
